Traditional Manhattans with Rye Whiskey

IMG_1211

Tis’ the season for libations! I love a special cocktail this time of year – from Manhattans, to Greyhounds, Chocolate Martinis and Brandy Alexanders. The holiday season was always a time for my parents to indulge and I love carrying on the tradition! My friend Andrew happens to be a master mixologist and we wrangled him in last minute to shake up some classic Manhattans for our “Happy Everything” Celebration this weekend. We made them the old fashion way – with Rye Whiskey and they were knock your socks off delicious and potent!

I recommend them for any special occasion – although be warned, one is a plenty! I’m not sure how those guys on Mad Men had these at lunch!

Sweet Vermouth is available in the Fresh Market specialty wine section along with bitters and organic maraschino cherries! Stock up now!

Andrew’s Traditional Manhattans with Rye Whiskey

  • 3/4 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Maraschino cherry

Shake or stir, strain, and serve up

  1. Zeto has wonderful Vermouth in smaller bottles perfect for Manhattans along with sout cherries soaked in Kirsch. No Marachino cherry should ever grace a Manhattan.
