I’m reporting back after a successful holiday full of family, friends and food. I spent the Christmas holiday in Florida with my family – enjoying less snow than the remainder of the country. We spent a number of cold days inside preparing small and large meals for family and enjoyed watching the rain fall by the fireplace in my mother’s cozy living room. Mostly, my time in Florida was packed with old friends and family. No gift could match getting to hear old stories from my Grandfather or catching up with some of my oldest and dearest childhood friends.
For Christmas day lunch, my family prepared a Sunshine State menu full of Gulf Coast Seafood. We started with a Roasted Fennel and Pancetta Salad and a Goat Cheese and Arugula Ravioli. We literally dove into a large bowls of Gulf Coast Seafood Chippino and finished with my mother’s Italian Cheesecake and my sister’s Chocolate Mousse.
I returned back to Mendenhall Street in time to stomp in some leftover snow and help my friend Andrew with a party. We rang in the New Year with a gracious amount of champagne and some homemade treats made by all.
In the next few weeks I’ll post some of the meals and recipes I enjoyed over the holiday season. From grapefruit cocktails, Christmas Salads, Comfort Cuban dishes and easy appetizers.
Happy New Year. To many more meals in 2011.
